NEW YORK - MEXICO - NON STOP. Vintage AIR FRANCE poster from the 1950's promoting travel to Mexico. Depicted here is an artistic interpretation of Quetzalcoatl, the Feathered Serpent, one of the major gods of the Aztecs. Quetzalcoatl was the god of the morning and the evening star.
The Valley of current day Mexico City was at the heart of the Aztec culture. Poster has been archivally linen backed. Born in 1881 in Brussels, Belgium, Colin studied painting and engraving at the Académie de Bruxelles under Isidore Verheyden.
He won the coveted "Prix de Rome" in 1910. Colin lived and perfected his artistic style in Italy and Algeria before returning to Belgium where he worked as a painter in an impressionistic style and executed a series of posters for AIR FRANCE. He also tutored Bernard Villemot who became one of the great poster designers in his own right. Colin passed on 1961 in Saint Josse ten Node. His work is highly collectible.
This poster has been conservation backed with acid-free paper and line and is ready for framing. 1 top edge, one tear approx. 2 bottom edge (only noticeable on very close inspection). No foxing, no paper loss, no edge wear, no creases. Clean paper and vivid colors.
